The Dispatch story about the judgment against the county supervisors is sad in a pathetic sort of way. What does it take for them to pay what they owe? The interest (so far, $33,230.52 in prejudgment interest) is adding up and they have zero chance of taking this all the way to the state Supreme Court. Just ain't gonna happen, so why not write the checks?
This is about usual for local politicians;
Judge levels $150,000 judgment against Brooks, ex-Lowndes supervisors
Quote
At the time, supervisors ordered the company not to pay the state, maintaining they had not acted illegally, according to Brooks, sparking the civil lawsuit by USF&G in 2007.
I only wish Brooks and Co., and every local politician who misappropriates public money, were held personally liable for every cent of that money. If average people did this to their employers, they'd be doing jail time for embezzlement, theft and fraud.
